It is with regret that I inform those who remember him,
that my old friend Alan Lawrence died on the 11th April 2014 aged 70 years.
His funeral took place two weeks later at Guildford Crematorium.
After attending Downer between 1956 and 1962, Alan became a civil servant with the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food rising to senior rank before taking early retirement to become the Secretary General of a body representing the UK meat industry. His work took him to Brussels where he lived for some while.
In 2004 he suffered a heart attack which slowed him down but he recovered well to see his daughter Emma get married (he made a fine speech at the wedding) and to become a very active grandfather. He was also an active member of the LibDem Party.
He is survived by his Finnish wife Maija, his son Chris as well as by his daughter and granddaughter.
